DAY PROGRAMME
11:00-12:00 | lecture | The New Extensions of the Presence. The Artists are (semi)present, by Mihaela Michailov
Is dance the new pot of prolific, hyper visible, transparent and as well vulnerable, blurred presences? In a society defined by ongoing proliferations of shows and an obligation to be in ceaseless motion, what is specifically proper to the ontology of movement in dance? Does the concept of presence in dance defines itself by taking into account other regimes of visibility linked to visual art, television, installation? How can we re-shape the new structures of meaning and the new content of presence relevant to the body realities in contemporary dance? The lecture will focus on dancers and visual artists who continuously redefine the paradigm of movement and presence in contemporary dance.
Mihaela Michailov is a playwright and performing arts critic. Her main interest is in socio-political theatre and performance theory. She wrote plays about the Romanian Revolution, about the gap between generations, about recent history events, about violence in schools, about children remaining at home and having their parents working abroad. Mihaela Michailov has been initiating various projects concerning theatre in education and community arts projects. She presented the Romanian dance scene in various international contexts such as Paris, Tokyo, Vienna. In 2009, she was invited to Lark Theatre, New York for a reading of one of her plays, which won a national competition in Romania. In July 2009, she was selected by Royal Court Theatre for the international playwrights’ residency. She holds a PHD in Theatre Studies at University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest.
