Configuring the aggregation port of an H3C switch

Port aggregation on H3C switches combines multiple physical ports into a single logical link to increase bandwidth and provide redundancy.

Step 1: Enter System View

Connect to the switch via console or Telnet/SSH and enter system-view mode:

system-view

This mode allows you to configure interfaces and aggregation groups.

Step 2: Create a Bridge-Aggregation Group

Declare a new aggregation group (e.g., group 1):

interface Bridge-Aggregation 1

Set the aggregation mode:

  • Dynamic (LACP):

[H3C-Bridge-Aggregation1] link-aggregation mode dynamic

  • Static (manual aggregation):

[H3C-Bridge-Aggregation1] link-aggregation mode static

Dynamic mode is recommended if both ends support LACP for automatic negotiation ( ).

Step 3: Assign Physical Ports to the Aggregation Group

Enter each physical interface and add it to the aggregation group:

interface GigabitEthernet 1/0/1[H3C-GigabitEthernet1/0/1] port link-aggregation group 1

Repeat for additional ports (up to 8 ports per group on most H3C switches) ( ).

Step 4: Configure VLANs (Optional)

If the aggregated link will carry multiple VLANs, configure it as a trunk:

interface Bridge-Aggregation 1[H3C-Bridge-Aggregation1] port link-type trunk[H3C-Bridge-Aggregation1] port trunk permit vlan 10 20

This allows VLAN 10 and VLAN 20 traffic to pass through the aggregated link ( ).

Step 5: Verify the Configuration

Check the status of the aggregation group and member ports:

display link-aggregation verbose display this

Look for the Selected state and the {ACG} flag indicating the port is part of the aggregation group ( ).

Step 6: Considerations and Restrictions

  • Ports cannot be part of an aggregation group if MAC authentication, 802.1X, or port security is enabled ( ).
  • Remove any conflicting configurations (VLAN mapping, QinQ, port isolation) before adding ports ( ).
  • Both ends of the link must be configured consistently for aggregation to function properly ( ). By following these steps, you can successfully configure port aggregation on an H3C switch, improving bandwidth and providing redundancy for critical network links.
