Type 09 Optical Cable

Type 09 Optical Cable is an outdoor, steel-wire armored, loose tube fiber optic cable designed for high durability and long-distance single-mode transmission.

Construction and Design

Type 09 optical cable typically contains 4 to 12 optical fibers housed in water-blocked loose tubes, surrounded by water-blocking glass yarn for moisture protection. The cable features a corrugated steel tape armor (CSTA) and an LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) outer sheath, with two steel wires embedded along the periphery for additional mechanical strength and rodent protection. The core fibers are low water peak single-mode fibers (9/125 µm, OS2), providing infinite bandwidth and low attenuation suitable for long-distance transmission .

Mechanical and Environmental Specifications

  • Nominal Mass: 135 ± 10 kg/km
  • Maximum Tensile Strength: 2000 N
  • Maximum Crush Resistance: 4000 N/10 cm
  • Attenuation: Compliant with IEC 794-1, GR 406 CORE standards The steel wire armor and LSZH jacket make the cable suitable for direct burial, duct, or aerial outdoor installations, providing protection against environmental extremes, mechanical stress, and fire hazards .

Fiber Type and Performance

Type 09 cables use single-mode OS2 fibers (9/125 µm), optimized for long-distance, high-speed data transmission. Single-mode fibers allow light to travel in a straight path, minimizing signal loss and enabling transmission over tens of kilometers with low attenuation. This makes them ideal for telecommunications, data centers, and backbone networks .

Applications

  • Telecommunication networks requiring long-distance connectivity
  • Outdoor installations exposed to harsh environmental conditions
  • Industrial and commercial networks where mechanical protection is critical
  • Data center interconnects and backbone fiber runs

Advantages

  • High mechanical strength due to steel wire armor
  • Water-blocked design prevents moisture ingress
  • LSZH jacket ensures low smoke and halogen-free safety
  • Compatible with standard telecommunications-grade optical fibers
  • Supports future network expansion with high fiber density options Type 09 optical cable is a robust solution for reliable, high-performance fiber optic networks in demanding outdoor environments, combining durability, low attenuation, and long-term stability.
