A standard twelve-core optical fiber cable uses the TIA-598-C color sequence: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, Aqua.

Standard 12-Fiber Color Sequence

For a 12-core optical fiber cable, each fiber is assigned a unique color to simplify identification during installation, splicing, and maintenance. According to the TIA-598-C standard, the sequence is as follows:

  1. Blue
  2. Orange
  3. Green
  4. Brown
  5. Slate (Gray)
  6. White
  7. Red
  8. Black
  9. Yellow
  10. Violet
  11. Rose (Pink)
  12. Aqua (Light Blue) This sequence ensures that each fiber can be uniquely identified within the cable, reducing errors during network deployment or repair .

Application in Multi-Fiber Cables

For cables with more than 12 fibers, the 12-color sequence is repeated in additional fiber groups or buffer tubes. To differentiate repeated sequences, a stripe or marking is added to the fiber, such as a black stripe on the second set of 12 fibers, a double stripe on the third set, and so on . This system allows technicians to manage high-count cables efficiently while maintaining clear identification.

Practical Considerations

  • Indoor vs. Outdoor Cables: The outer jacket color may indicate the type of fiber (e.g., yellow for single-mode, orange for multimode), but the internal fiber color sequence remains consistent.
  • Splicing and Patch Panels: Using the standard color sequence simplifies fiber splicing, connectorization, and patch panel organization.
  • High-Density Installations: In cables with multiple 12-fiber tubes, each tube may have a distinct tube color (e.g., blue, orange, green) while fibers inside follow the same 12-color sequence . By following this standardized color spectrum, technicians can ensure accurate fiber identification, reduce installation errors, and maintain compliance with industry standards.
