Typical Dimensions
Double-layer distribution boxes vary by manufacturer and number of ways, but standard dimensions generally fall within these ranges:
- Height: 400–600 mm
- Width: 300–500 mm
- Depth: 120–200 mm These dimensions accommodate two rows of MCBs, RCDs, or RCBOs, along with neutral and earth bars, DIN rails, and cable entry space .
Internal Layout
A double-layer distribution box is designed to separate circuits into two horizontal rows for better organization and easier maintenance:
- Top Row: Incoming main switch, surge protective device (SPD), and first set of MCBs
- Bottom Row: Second set of MCBs, neutral bar, and earth bar
- DIN Rails: Two rails, one per row, for mounting protective devices
- Cable Entries: Knockouts or pre-drilled holes at top, bottom, or sides for L, N, and PE cables
- Busbars: Phase busbar and neutral busbar arranged to connect all outgoing circuits efficiently
