  • RCCB/RCD (Residual Current Device): Protects against current leakage and electric shocks.
  • MCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers): Protect individual circuits from overloads or short circuits.
  • Bus bars: Metal strips for connecting hot (phase), neutral, and ground wires. Electricity enters the DB from the utility service via the energy meter, passes through the main isolator, and is then routed to the RCCB and MCBs for distribution to subcircuits .

Step-by-Step Wiring Process

  1. Safety First: Ensure the main power supply is completely de-energized. Use a voltage tester to confirm zero voltage. Wear insulated gloves, safety glasses, and arc-rated clothing .
  2. Prepare Tools and Materials: Essential tools include insulated screwdrivers, wire strippers, a multimeter, and a torque wrench for tightening terminals .
  3. Connect the Main Supply:
    • Feed the phase (live) and neutral wires from the energy meter to the main isolator.
    • From the isolator, connect the phase wire to the RCCB and the neutral wire to the neutral bus bar.
  4. Wire the Protective Devices:
    • Connect the phase output from the RCCB to the MCBs in parallel.
    • Connect the neutral wires from each circuit to the neutral bus bar.
    • Connect all ground wires to the ground bus bar for safety .
  5. Label Circuits: Clearly mark each MCB with the corresponding room or appliance it controls to simplify maintenance and troubleshooting.
  6. Test the System: After wiring, verify each circuit with a voltage tester. Check for proper operation of the RCCB and MCBs, ensuring no buzzing, flickering, or overheating occurs .
