Connecting the live wire to the distribution box

The incoming live (phase) wire should be connected to the main switch (isolator) in the distribution box, from where it is distributed to the MCBs and protective devices.

1. Turn Off Power Ensure the main supply is completely turned off and verify with a voltage tester that no electricity is present before handling any wires .
2. Main Switch (Isolator) Connection The live wire from the energy meter or utility supply is first connected to the main switch or isolator. This switch controls the entire distribution board and allows you to safely disconnect power when needed .
3. RCCB/RCD Connection From the main switch, the live wire is routed to the RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) or RCD, which protects against leakage currents and electric shocks .
4. Distribution to MCBs After the RCCB, the live wire is connected in parallel to the MCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers). Each MCB protects an individual circuit, isolating it in case of overload or short circuit .
5. Neutral and Earth Connections
   • The neutral wire from the supply is connected to the neutral bus bar.
   • The earth wire is connected to the earth bus bar, which is linked to the grounding system for safety .
6. Final Checks Ensure all connections are tight, properly insulated, and color-coded (typically red or brown for live, blue for neutral, green/yellow for earth). Arrange wires neatly to avoid overcrowding .
