For cables with more than 12 fibers, the sequence repeats with added black stripes or other markers to maintain unique identification in each group. In some high-density or European standards, a 16-color sequence is used for MPO connectors: 13: Olive, 14: Magenta, 15: Tan, 16: Lime .
In loose-tube cables, multiple fibers are grouped inside color-coded buffer tubes. Each tube follows the same 12-color sequence, allowing technicians to identify both the tube and the fiber inside. For example, in a 48-fiber cable, the 34th fiber would be the Violet fiber in the Green tube .
The outer jacket color indicates the type of fiber or cable category, providing a quick visual reference during installation. Common jacket colors include yellow for single-mode fibers and orange or aqua for multimode fibers. Hybrid cables may include printed legends to indicate fiber count and types inside .
