Installation of the concealed door of the entrance electrical distribution box

A concealed electrical distribution box is installed by embedding it in a wall, securing it firmly, connecting circuits safely, and finishing the wall for a flush, hidden appearance.

Step 1: Choose the Location

Select a dry, accessible area that is away from water, flammable materials, and corrosive substances. The box should be near the main power supply for easy connection and maintenance, with enough space around it for ventilation and future upgrades. For residential installations, a height of approximately 1.5 meters above the floor is recommended .

Step 2: Prepare the Wall

  • Reserve a hole in the wall 20mm larger than the box dimensions to allow for plastering and adjustments .
  • The depth should equal the thickness of the box plus the plaster layer.
  • Ensure the wall is structurally sound to support the box.

Step 3: Fix the Box

  • Embed the box in the wall and secure it with concrete or masonry filler to prevent movement .
  • Ensure the box is level and plumb, with vertical deviation not exceeding 3mm.
  • Apply anti-corrosion paint to contact surfaces if necessary.
  • Leave no gaps around the edges; the box should sit flush with the wall surface.

Step 4: Wiring and Connections

  • Connect the incoming power line to the main terminals and the load lines to the respective circuit terminals .
  • Install fuses or circuit breakers vertically and ensure proper labeling for AC, DC, or different voltage levels.
  • Separate neutral (N) and protective earth (PE) busbars and number them for clarity.
  • Use correct wire gauge, insulation, and secure grounding to comply with safety standards .

Step 5: Enclosure and Protection

  • Choose an enclosure with appropriate IP or NEMA rating to protect against dust, water, and mechanical damage .
  • For indoor concealed boxes, NEMA 1 or IP20 is usually sufficient; for high-humidity areas, consider IP66 or NEMA 4.

Step 6: Wall Finishing

  • After wiring, plaster or drywall around the box to achieve a flush, concealed look.
  • Ensure the cover panel is accessible for maintenance but blends with the wall.
  • Conduct a visual inspection and multimeter test before powering on to verify correct connections and safety .

Step 7: Maintenance

  • Schedule regular inspections to check for loose connections, corrosion, or moisture ingress.
  • Label all circuits clearly to facilitate future upgrades or troubleshooting. By following these steps, you can safely install a concealed distribution box that is both functional and aesthetically integrated into the wall.
