Step 1: Site Selection

Choose a location that is stable, accessible, and close to FTTH access nodes for outdoor cabinets. Ensure the ground is firm and the site can withstand environmental stress such as wind and rain. For indoor or rack-mounted cabinets, select a location with sufficient space for cable management and future maintenance .

Step 2: Cabinet Mounting

  • Outdoor cabinets: Secure the cabinet firmly to the ground or a concrete base to prevent tipping or movement. Ensure it is level and stable .
  • Rack-mounted cabinets: Install brackets on both sides of the cabinet and fix them to the designated rack position using screws. Plan the installation direction in advance to avoid operational inconvenience .

Step 3: Cable Introduction

  • Pass the optical cable through the designated entry holes of the cabinet.
  • Use grommets or cable sheaths to protect the cable's outer layer during insertion.
  • Pre-terminated branch fiber jumpers or pigtails are typically used as backbone cables .

Step 4: Internal Cabling and Fiber Management

  • Route the fiber inside the cabinet carefully, using bending radius control clamps to prevent excessive bending and signal loss.
  • Reserve sufficient slack for pull-out panels; typically, the cable length between points A and B should be at least 31 inches to avoid tension when the panel is fully extended .
  • Secure cables with cable ties at necessary points to maintain organization and prevent movement.

Step 5: Grounding and Safety

  • Properly ground the cabinet to protect against electrical surges and ensure long-term safety.
  • Seal the cabinet to prevent moisture ingress and environmental damage, especially for outdoor installations .

Step 6: Testing and Verification

  • After installation, perform optical testing to verify signal integrity and low loss.
  • Check all connections, adapters, and splices to ensure stable performance.
  • Confirm that the cabinet is securely mounted and that all cables are properly routed and protected . Following these steps ensures stable FTTH network performance, long service life, and reduced maintenance costs, whether deploying outdoor or rack-mounted fiber optic distribution cabinets .
