Physical Connection

Network Configuration

Additional Considerations

  • Switches before or after AP: PoE must be delivered directly from a PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment) to the AP. If you need additional ports at the AP location, a non-PoE switch can be connected after the AP's Ethernet port, but it will not pass PoE to other devices (Network Engineering guidance) .
  • Outdoor APs: For outdoor deployments, PoE switches can be combined with fiber backhaul for high-speed connectivity while still powering the AP over Ethernet (Ubiquiti guide) .
